About us

Hey there! I’m John, the owner and head cheese at MVP Poster. I got into the printing business because I had a passion for customer service and frankly, the opportunity to own MVP came at just the right time. The previous owner Mel  taught me everything he knew about printing and serving customers. Owning it since 2017, I’ve maintained the previously built long-standing relationships while creating new ones along the way. My goal was to maintain, or even exceed, the standards of quality set by Mel, like sewing banner edges instead of gluing, because it’s the little things that make all the difference. Thank you for letting me serve you.

A Nod to Mel, Vicki, and Hooper; The Founders of MVP

MVP Poster, Inc. was the brainchild of Mel and Vicki Phillippi. Their story kicks off back in 1976 in Northern California, where they started out as a screen printing shop churning out real estate signs.

Fast forward to 1982, Mel and Vicki sold their California gig, hopped on a 37’ trimaran, and sailed off into the sunset for a five-year adventure from San Francisco all the way to Sydney, Australia, and back.

By the time they hit Bremerton, WA in 1987, they were down to $50 and a boat desperately in need of TLC. After grinding away for a few years, Mel and Vicki decided to set up shop again, this time calling it "Phillippi Screen Printing," thanks to the dough from selling the boat.

Mel would hand-deliver finished products to all his customers in his little white truck and canopy, with his canine sidekick Hooper in the passenger seat. His philosophy was to always go above and beyond on any project, no matter how big or small.

Come 2004, they took it up a notch, incorporating and re-branding as MVP Poster, Inc. Around the same time, they started dabbling in digital printing tech, slowly phasing out the old-school screen printing game. Mel and Vicki decided to hang up their hats in 2017, passing the torch to John Havens - the current owner and printer extraordinaire.
